The Islamic State group is using a new tactic to try and entrap Westerners by using a spy-like soap opera actor as a tool of propaganda.
According to The Associated Press, the Islamic State uses soap operas to create a virtual “media environment” to attract sympathizers who can be used as a recruitment tool.
The actors are filmed, and then the actor’s performance is uploaded to social media sites, such as Facebook and YouTube, which can then be shared with others in the Islamic group’s stronghold in Syria.
The soap operasmis called “Akhilah,” and the videos can be seen by a large audience of Islamic State supporters.
Akhil, or the “good man” in Arabic, is a title often used to refer to an enemy.
“This is not an individual or individualism, this is a network of people who have been recruited by this group,” the senior Islamic State commander in Syria, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, told the AP in an interview.
“It is a propaganda and recruiting tool.”
The actor, who has not been named, appeared in a new ISIS propaganda video this week, which features him saying he was recruited by the Islamic state after visiting the group’s Raqqa stronghold.
The Islamic group has also launched a new online advertising campaign in Arabic.
Akhila, a member of the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, formerly ISIS), and the actor who appeared in the new video.
The Islamic State, which is also known as ISIS or ISIL, is an international terrorist organization that has declared a caliphate in Iraq, Syria, and Libya, and has pledged allegiance to the Islamic leader, Abu Mohammed al-Adnani.
The group’s latest video released on Monday, titled “Athila: A new model of the enemy,” depicts an actor in an American flag, posing with a rifle, as the narrator states: “A soldier is coming from the west, the US, and his target is you, your loved ones, your family, your friends.”
The narrator adds that the American soldier, who is called “Jihad,” has infiltrated a US-controlled base and will be coming to the area to kill Americans.
The narrator says the actor, whom the narrator calls “Jihadi,” will take his place as the leader of the group.
In another video, titled Abu Ammar al-Juhani, the narrator says, “You will be the one to destroy the American bases.”
He then introduces an actor, identified as “Juhan,” who has been recruited in the United States, who says, in Arabic: “The Americans are the ones who are killing us, and you are the leader, so do not give up.”
The new video includes an interview with a man who says he was sent by the U.S. military to Iraq and was given a rifle.
The man says he is a military intelligence officer who is tasked with helping recruit people to fight in Syria against the Islamic extremists.
The narrator adds, “I will tell you, there is one who is ready for you, the one who will lead you to victory.
He is Jihad.”
